BabShad Jazzz performs standards from the Great American Songbook, Broadway melodies, some blues, some funk, lots of swing and Latin. Vocalist Barbara Hadenfeldt “imbues each song with passion and meaning and her own sense of how the world works. She sexes up the tunes, drapes them in drama, and pulls feelings from a deep inner space. Her singing is experienced and serene.” [M. Pronko, Jazz in Japan ]. In addition to rock and jazz gigs on both coasts, Barbara has performed in Paris, Copenhagen, Shanghai, and Tokyo. Her repertoire includes international favorites in several languages. A “versatile vocalist with great intonation, control of difficult intervals, and compelling interpretation of her material” [J. Gannon, Mal Sharpe’s Big Money in Jazz Band], Barbara uses her theater and rock ‘n roll experience to enrich her jazz stylings. After jazz stints in California, New York, and at the famed Blue Note in Paris, Barbara (along with her drummer husband Charles) formed bands playing rock and blues in Montana and the Northwest. In the 1980s Barbara and Charles returned to the San Francisco Bay Area and to their favorite music, jazz. BabShad Jazzz toured in Asia in 2007 and returned to play in Tokyo in May 2009.Tokyo tours with bassist Alan Gleason and pianist Yuichi Kudoh took place in 2014 and 2015. As the BabShad Jazzz Quartet, Barbara and Charles perform with outstanding Bay Area musicians.
